how can I contribute?

Added by Apostolos Syropoulos over 3 years ago

Hello,

Maybe my question sounds silly or even stupid but could someone let me know how can I contribute to this project?
Previously, I was compiling and packaging Open Source programs (e.g., MPlayer, TeXLive, etc.) for OpenSolaris and
I was doing translation into Greek.

TeXLive packaged for OpenSolaris already?
Great. What packaging tool you used ? IPS or SVR4 ?

I was doing translation into Greek.

Hello,

TeXLive includes the OpenSolaris binaries in tar.xz format (nothing special!) but all other packages have been SVR4 packages.
Unfortunately, I did not had the time to learn the details of IPS package management. But the question is whether there will
be an official package repository or something like this? Now the URL you send me is about contributing code to the
kernel/drive developing project. This is something I am not ready to do, at least for the moment.

All the best,

A.S.

Then you are probably best of with helping with reporting bugs and testing out the code. Also, feel free to contribute guides which may help out other people, such as the guide on how to contribute, or the guide on How To Build illumos.

For non kernel level contribution you are welcome to take part to sfw project.

Internationalization has actually been a core push for us (that was a large swath of the closed code), but only a subset of us are actually used to working in an locale that is not either C or en. We have people working on de and es, I think, but I don't think anyone is working on Greek. If you wanted to work on/test a Greek locale that would be helpful.

Hello,

I would like to work on a Greek locale. Also, the Illumos-sfw project is intersting. So please give me further instructions.
