Description
On Solaris 10 systems and OpenSolaris SXCE we had a normal boot and a failsafe boot kind of images, the latter being used to repair a specific system (i.e. the miniroot could include required hardware drivers, etc.) with an a-priori compatible (same) kernel, etc.
From what I gather, with transition to IPS-based OpenSolaris and later on in OpenIndiana, this option was abandoned, apparently in favor of LiveCD/LiveUSBs to be used to repair a system.
Well, this is not often very convenient, and having an embedded method of repairing a system is still desired.
RFE: Make "Failsafe boot" available again for OpenIndiana! :)
