Description

When attempting to play mov and avi video files recorded on Canon and Nikon digital camera since 2005 the files can no longer play on OpenIndiana.
If I attempt to play the files using VLC 3.0.8 on Windows they play without issue.

Examining the old .mov from 2005 to 2009 and .avi from 2009 - 2019 files VLC identifies both as "Motion JPEG (MJPG)", the video playback window constantly changes its size so no image is displayed however the audio is played back correctly
The newer digital camera .mp4 and .mov files from 2019 files are identified as recorded as "H264 MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1)" and play without problem.

HI

The bug unfortunately is not resolved but I am not sure if the problem does lie with VLC.
If I play an old video when logged into the console.

I get the following errors

If I enable "xhost +local:", su to another user and "export DISPLAY=:0.0" and then use vlc to play the same video, the video plays correctly without audio but generate the following errors

Hi

After going through different environment settings, comparing users who can and not play the videos. The only difference found was the PATH which I altered to be be the same a that of a working user. The problem remained, so then I started looking at the VLC settings, comparing two users they were also identical.
As an experiment I changed the VLC output from VDPAU output which was common to both users to Automatic on my account which could not play the videos correctly, once changed it worked perfectly.
The .nvidia-settings-rc files are the only differences between the two accounts, would this cause the problem?
I am happy to close the case now as it is not a software issue.
