Description

Currently gcc is set to product 32 bit binary by default. I suggest to change it to 64 bit by default. If the users want to produce 32 bit binary, they have to specify -m32 themselves.

Current behaviour is very inconvenient. When compile software from source, the configure script will automatically target 32 bit host and build, which is obviously wrong as no one would want to compile a 32 bit software on an 64 bit OS anymore.

This isn't filed in the right place; compiler delivery is via distributions such as OpenIndiana or OmniOS. Please file an RFE with your distribution.

Side note, you are not correct in stating nobody would want to create 32-bit binaries on 64-bit OSs; that is far from simple question.
