Description

The maximum password length is 20 characters. My main password is atm. 24 characters. It took a while to understand what was wrong when I got a failed login on my freshly installed OmniOS.

The maximum password length should be increased to at least 64 characters as people use both long autogenerated passwords and random words that still have a large entropy. (think XKCD's staple horse).

Funny, I'm running OmniOS Stable (currently r151038) with a >20char password. To test your hypothesis I tried clipping it down down to 20 and it did not let me in.

If the passwd(1) command lets you change it to something larger than 20char, perhaps the flaw is in the OmniOS installer?

That may indeed be the case as I entered the passwords in the installer.

If that is the case, then it should be that much easier to fix for the next release :)

If your command-line password change works, please close this generic illumos bug, as your bug is with a specific distro. Thanks!

Correct!

Tested working: I will move the issue to OmniOS and its installer.

I cannot find a way to close this issue (perhaps I don't have permission to close my own reported issues?)

Someone with the rights, feel free to close or delete the issue.
