vlc 2.2.8 versus vlc 3.0.16
Problems to play video DVD movies with the latest vlc 3.0.16 from hipster-encumbered.
hipster-encumbered origin online F http://pkg.openindiana.org/hipster-encumbered/
The 3.0.16 vlc opens video but there is something wrong with the updates of images (frames are not contineously being updated, the images seem frozen for a while).
I get much better results with
$ pkg list vlc
NAME (PUBLISHER) VERSION IFO
media/vlc (hipster-encumbered) 2.2.8-2018.0.0.2 i--
than with the latest vlc 3.0.16
Fortunately the old 2.2.8 stills seems to install and work just fine on current 2022 OpenIndiana.
Maybe this issue should be rather reported to https://www.videolan.org/vlc/ but in any case it is a fortunate fact that the old vlc 2.2.8 is still in the hipster-encumbered repo.

when mounting a DVD automounted under /media/somedir
there are *.VOB files for me there under /media, MPEG sequence v2 files
these vob files can be played with "ffplay" from the 4.4.1 ffmpeg package (also in http://pkg.openindiana.org/hipster-encumbered)
See http://pkg.openindiana.org/hipster-encumbered version 4.4.1 of ffmpeg which is an alternative to VLC
