Implementing the exponential backoff enhancement from the FreeBSD commit above, i.e. starting with 4 microseconds, and multiplying it by 2 until we expire busy-wait timeout confirms the observations in the commit message – ipmitool sensor performance is greatly increased (on HPE system it goes down to ~2 seconds from > 10), and that should help with fmd startup and sensor polling as well.
