Description

The current version of gdisk / cfgdisk in OpenIndiana is 1.0.3

1.0.9 seems to work:

# pkg list -af gptfdisk
NAME (PUBLISHER) VERSION IFO
system/storage/gptfdisk 1.0.3-2020.0.1.0 ---
system/storage/gptfdisk (userland) 1.0.9-2022.0.0.0 i--

I tested gdisk 1.0.9 and it seems to report the right partitions for me

# gdisk -l /dev/dsk/c4t2d0
Number Start (sector) End (sector) Size Code Name
   1 256 524543 256.0 MiB EF00 loader
   2 524544 976756750 465.5 GiB BF01 zfs
   9 976756751 976773134 8.0 MiB BF07

I have submitted a github PR (pull request) but in fact I have nothing to do with this package, so I'll close my pull request and I'm just opening a Feature Request here that it could be useful to update gptfdisk to version 1.0.9.

Thanks,

cgdisk and gdisk are useful tools in OpenIndiana oi-userland but I am not sure that they are the right tools to use in OpenIndiana or Illumos. Illumos provides fmthard, format and prtvtoc or perhaps fdisk.. Historically I think that gdisk is a "odd duck" program for OpenIndiana and Illumos.

For example https://illumos.org/man/8/fdisk does not mention cgdisk and gdisk at all.

Also I am not sure that https://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/ is the only project related to gdisk.
Perhaps there are different sources for gdisk such as the ones in linux-utils.

I can ask on the sourceforge gdisk list. Maybe they are prepared to add the (minor) patch to make it work on OpenIndiana.

In any case I do not know enough of disk geometry to be able to be the maintainer of this tool, so this could be assigned to somebody who works on disk kernel support.
