Description

Hi,

used the latest USB image to install/test the latest image.

https://dlc.openindiana.org/isos/hipster/test/OI-hipster-gui-20240420.usb

Tested on a Thinkpad P52 with BIOS setting UEFI only. Booting from and installation from USB works, once completed and rebooting I was wondering why it was always booting the Solaris disk (1st NVMe in the system though the 2dn OI NVMe had been selected as boot disk). Re-installed as I tthough there was an error and again the same symptom. Till I re-checked the BIOS setting and changed from UEFI to both (UEFI and Legacy)which succeeded in booting OI from the disk though I noticed that the first messages of the loader ar BIOS C: drive and D: drive.

This could also be the issue of the whole NVIDIA/vbios malfunction as no other system (FreeBSD, Solaris, Linux) has problems with this configuration and the NVIDIA graphics card.

Cheers

Iggi

I guess, with UEFI mode, it did not start illumos loader, but Solaris grub? In that case, make sure you do not have secure boot enabled.

Secure boot is always disabled .. I even disabled TPM.

Solaris grub boots (well Linux, FreedBSD, GhostBSD (and these seem to use the same loader as OI)) no matter what I have enabled UEFI/Legacy/Both. OI only if "both" enabled.
