Description

A network pathology that IPD does not appear to cover is packet reordering. Often, due to parallel packet processing finishing out of order (e.g. IPsec using asynchronous crypto, where small packets beat large ones), packets get shuffled as they arrive on an interface.

One way to accomplish reordering is to allow random variance in latency, possibly where later packets beat earlier ones out of IPD.

Another is to explicitly configure reordering. One suggestion is a <percentage>,<window> tuple, where <percentage> is how often a packet gets reordered, and <window> specifies the upper-bound of how many packets escape in front of it. For example:

reorder 0.5,5

means (on average) 1 in every 200 packets will be reordered between 1 and 5 places behind where it should be.
