Description

The wireless USB stack we have was built to support a specification that never got more than token adoption by the industry. Early in it's life, this technology was killed off by business considerations, and apart from a very very few laptops, there were never any controllers for it available. There are no useful UWB devices to be found on the market, and there really have never been. UWB was fully replaced by greater adoption of Bluetooth. (Sadly, BT is still something illumos lacks support for - but given the main use cases are desktop or laptop oriented, and most of the uses of illumos are server oriented, this shouldn't come as a surprise.)

But worse than this, the technical debt that this carries, apart from adding substantial complexity to the USB stack itself, build time complexity (extra Makefile rules, etc.), this also is one of the bits of software that depends on the OpenSSL code. Removing this therefore has the benefit of narrowing that interface somewhat.
