Description

RFE: A subversion instance as people.illumos.org would be nice to host per-user files and developer stuff.

Proposed layout should be:
http://people.illumos.org/people/USERNAME/ for users
and
http://people/illumos.org/projects/PROJECTNAME/ for projects

IMO Subversion should be used because:
  • it can serve web pages directly (if the per-file mime-type is set to text/html)
  • it has a centralised architecture
  • it has proper version control
  • has widely available command-line utilities to read/write data from/to the repository
  • is format agnostic (and properly handles binary files)

I am almost tempted to just reject this out of hand. We don't need to provide generalized file hosting services... we are not in the business of becoming a webhost or an ISP after all.
