$ /usr/bin/nawk -d awk version Oct 11, 1989 /usr/bin/nawk: no program given Abort (core dumped)
The fix is quite straightforward (attached).

Why do you like to "fix" intentional behavoir?
It is pretty obvious that nawk -d is expected to core dump in this case in order to allow debugging.

It is fixed in the same way in newer nawk versions (http://www.cs.princeton.edu/~bwk/btl.mirror/).
