Bug #665
openBooting b148 on HP ProBook 6550b causes horrible siren sound
0%
Description
When I boot b148 on HP ProBook 6550b I get a horrible siren/horn sound during the boot. It's virtually impossible to be in the same room when OI boots. It ends as XOrg starts and logs in and is replaced by rattling/buzzing sound, like a badly tuned radio receiver...
I tried the DVD live boot, not installed it yet.
The exact product ID of the notebook is: WD705EA#ARL

We don't use OSSv4, and our low-level drivers differ significantly from 4Front's.
Daniel, can you paste the output of cat /dev/sndstat
?

Since I cannot get network working, I can only give you a photo of my screen showing cat /dev/sndstat: http://www.dropbox.com/gallery/1967301/1/oi?h=bfc6e1
(there is also a picture showing network-related dmesg stuff, but thats OT for this thread)

I'm attaching the screenshot here so that it doesn't get lost in case I clean my Dropbox account.

And from what I've tried yesterday, the horrible siren sound was gone -- replaced by only by the buzzing sound that goes out constantly. Changing volume does not help. I can record a video if you wish.

I have a HP ProBook 5320m.

I tried booting Solaris 11 Express with sol-11-exp-201011-live-x86.usb.
I also tried booting OpenIndiana with oi-dev-148-x86.usb.writable-with-dd.
The computer boots fine to GRUB. After GRUB I get the same siren sound.
OpenSUSE 11.3 works ok.
