Openindiana Hipster branding in illumos loader
0%
Description
illumos loader branding in Openindiana hipster seems to be only saying "Hipster" on loading screen.
Distribution name is Openindiana and not hipster.
It could be good to not see on screen it is hipster rolling-release development Openindiana, but I don't think it is appropriate to have "hipster" on screen instead of "Openindiana" or "Openindiana hipster", unless you one is planning registering hipster.org or something.
Leaving hipster there instead of mentioning Openindiana would lead to confusion about illumos distribution name.
Not to have confusion about branding, I suggest displayed text to be: Openindiana hipster
Displaying just hipster conflicts with Openindiana branding and can confuse people of finding right distribution web page and general brand designation, that is Openindiana.

There is OI logo, which I think is sufficient. Unless you can come up with a better ascii art or a person, who could redesign it (best possible situation would be a person with graphic skills) until no change is happening as alp, aurelien nor I are people with graphic skills. Do you think you could showcase how it should look? Creating some skitches would be good start.

Logo looks very bad and it is not sufficient.
illumos distribution is called Openindiana , not hipster.
I have attached better ascii art already, saying Openindiana and not hipster.
Also attached ascii art for better logo.
Logo is not needed, Openindiana saying is needed, because there is no "hipster.org" but "openindiana.org".
Putting something so bad looking and misleading is not the sign of skill, but of not thinking enough of consequesnces.
i think we can live without logo whatsoever.
But displaying "hipster" instead of Openindiana is misleading users.
Why not putting Hipster inside logo place instead and inform people they are using Openindiana.
Look at attachments to this bug report.
I think you can showcase removing bad looking logo and putting Openindiana instead of hipster even before asking for wider audience for additional solutions.

OK.
Please open a PR and provide a link to a screenshot of the boot loader with your changes.

Or... can we drop ascii art in the loader? I hate ascii art....

I've chosen to show just Hipster because OpenIndiana in ASCII art was too long (and as result wasn't shown or at least wasn't shown correctly). I don't think this worth any effort, as after later loader commits we'll likely be able to use images or another fonts.

- Target version changed from 2017.04 to Hipster
- Status changed from New to Closed
Since nobody opened a PR in 7months and upcoming bootloader bits will render this ticket obsolete, the case is closed.

You are closing unfixed tickets,
ticket is about fixing look of branding and text in loader, that is universal to OI and upcoming loader bits (what, where?)
