Description

I witness on 2 separate machines (one nvidia 9500gt desktop, the other Intel 945Gm laptop)
that in past 12 days or so, after yet undetermined updates in OI /hipster repository,
after GUI login, desktop items are shown very slowly, and actually looks like that , after Mate panel display,
it waits for something for a long time and then just displays all the desktop contents at once.

On previous logins after updates, I used to see something similar to re-creating desktop previews on symbolic linksicon view of PDF files on desktop,
where firstly all desktop icons are displayed, except PDF icons (possibly re-generating their preview/icons all at once for all PDFs),
but after few logins it does it faster, yet again on every login it waits too much time, displaying spinning sandclock for cursor and nothi8ng on desktop for several tens of seconds.

On both machines, same user profile is used (zfs send//receive), user profile updated from before MATE times, when GNOME was used and system updated to MATE last year or so.
Using osnet-incorporation 0.5.11-2017.0.0.16505, userland-incorporation 0.5.11-2017.0.0.9183 atm.

Not the part of a bug description, but mentioning because it might be related:
at the same time I see many panel applets dying on login (trash applet, weather applet aplications list, mate panel itself, large CPU usage for mate-panel sometimes for short period, large cpu usage for pulseaudio untill killed, with desktop freezing and red artefacts on the 945GM laptop screen etc) After some time, deskop/nvidia machine stabilized with applets, except for the long load of desktop.
All these problems were not visible right after Xorg update and MATE 1.18 update, but in last 12 days or so, pointing to some of the /hipster repo updates causing it.
