I think you're referring to the Git commits (or Mercurial changesets historically), but those do not actually satisfy the CDDL. The CDDL is a file-based license, where "Covered Software" is "(a) the Original Software, or (b) Modifications, or (c) the combination of files containing Original Software with files containing Modifications" and not pertaining to any SCM used to manage the Covered Software.

E.g. the license terms have to be satisfied by what would be produced by git-archive.
